World Heritage Site
Falun actually attracted several of the first tourists to Sweden. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Falu mine was one of the world’s largest copper mines and one of Sweden’s largest workplaces with more than 1,200 employed miners. In those days, Falun was also the second largest town in Sweden after Stockholm.
World Heritage Sites are cultural or natural sites of such value that it is considered essential to preserve them for mankind. They are places, environments or objects that in a unique way have something to say about the history of the earth and its inhabitants. All sites on the UNESCO World Heritage list are guaranteed protection and maintenance for all future.
